PE

Physical Education

At Alton Park Junior School, we strive to inspire our pupils to enjoy physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.  We encourage our pupils to achieve to the best of their ability and provide a safe and supportive environment for them to flourish in a range of different physical activities in order to support their physical, emotional, spiritual, social and moral development, along with mental well-being.  We offer a varied programme of activity to ensure that all pupils progress physically, through an engaging PE curriculum. We encourage all pupils to develop their understanding of the way in which they can use their body, equipment and apparatus safely, yet imaginatively, to achieve their personal goals.  Pupils are encouraged to adopt a positive mind-set and believe that anything can be achieved with determination and resilience. Pupils are taught as individual participants and team members to embed life-long values such as co-operation and collaboration.

Aims of the PE Curriculum

The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities

  • are physically active for sustained periods of time

  • engage in competitive sports and activities

  • lead healthy, active lives.
