Alton Park Junior School is a Nurturing and inclusive space, where Aspiration, and Tenacity flourish. Opportunities and Learning allow physical, social and emotional development for life.

At Alton Park Junior School, our ALTON values are at the centre of everything that we do. We strive to deliver a high quality, broad and balanced curriculum that meets the needs of all of our pupils. For a number of our curriculum subjects, we follow the CUSP programme of study, which is guided by evidence-led curriculum structures, such as retrieval, spaced retrieval practice and interleaving. It is underpinned by explicit vocabulary instruction and research-focused pedagogy, enabling pupils to both know and remember more.

Our school curriculum has been developed to ensure pupils are:

ASPIRATION:

  • Equipped with the vocabulary, knowledge and skills to achieve both now and in their future.

  • Able to make informed and aspirational decisions about and for their future.

LEARNING:

  • Exposed to engaging lessons that motivate, build confidence and develop character.

  • Able to access a broad and balanced curriculum that develops key knowledge and skills that can be recalled and applied.

TENACITY:

  • Given the tools to develop as resilient learners, who demonstrate growth mindsets.

  • Able to access a supportive and tailored curriculum that assists pupils in overcoming challenges.

OPPORTUNITIES:

  • Given first-hand experiences and visits that build a wider understanding of the world.

  • Accessing a balanced curriculum, adapted to the school context.

NURTURE:

  • Nurtured in a safe, caring place where all are supported academically, physically, socially and emotionally.

Our curriculum will be delivered through:

  • Knowledge, skills and vocabulary in each subject which build over time.

  • Opportunities for retrieving and applying key knowledge and skills.

  • Opportunities to discuss their learning and knowledge with each other.

LEARNING FOR ALL:

  • Modelling and practice that builds pupils’ confidence and independence.

  • Learning that is delivered in small steps taking account of pupils’ needs.

  • Learning that is adapted for pupils so that they are supported and challenged appropriately.

BUILD CHARACTER:

  • Embedding and explicitly teaching SMSC and British Values across the curriculum.

  • The ALTON values that are explicitly taught and recognised within and across lessons.

  • A curriculum offer that includes a range of cultural capital opportunities and experiences.

Our curriculum will be successful if:
