Online spaces, games and media form a large part of life for young people growing up today and sometimes information is brought to our attention that we feel necessary to share with parents for the protection of children.
We have, this week, received a warning about the game ‘Hitman’ which is a PEGI 18 rated game, which means the Games Rating Authority rates it as only suitable for those 18 and over. Therefore, the game cannot be sold to anyone under the age of 18 in a shop.
Sometimes, parents/carers might consider allowing older children to play games that have been awarded a higher age rating but our information is that ‘Hitman’ should not be one of those games. The reviews clearly show this is one for the adults only. Younger children should not be allowed to play this game.
Our Year 5s will be attending the Walk OnLine Roadshow organised by the Tendring Community Safety Partnership on Wednesday, 4th March 2020. (Y5 Parents will receive more information nearer the time). Walk On Line is commissioned to raise awareness to young people about the potential dangers they face when using the internet and aim to highlight the issues that young people are not aware of including how easily they can be exploited through well-known online games and apps. Parent sessions are also available but you will need to book your place by visiting the Princes Theatre Website. The date for parents is Thursday, 5th March 2020 at 7pm.
