Community Project: Edensor Nursing Home

As you may know, the school maintains close links with Edensor Residential Home in Clacton town centre.  Our choir visit during the course of the academic year and some of our children have visited at Halloween to work with the residents to do some pumpkin carving.

The care home has recently installed a Magic Table for their residents, and they really would love to use it to reach out to the community around them and get our children involved in creating moments of happiness!  The impact it’s having on people’s lives has seen it recently featured on Sky News and the BBC.

The Magic Table is an interactive projector designed specifically for those with mid to late stage dementia. It projects beautiful images on to any table and allows people to interact with them and play with the light – from sweeping up leaves or catching fish to painting pictures and making jigsaws. The technology is based on a 6-year PhD done in Holland, and has proven to be an excellent way for different generations to engage, breaking down barriers and raising awareness around dementia in a playful manner. If you would like to find out more about The Magic Table then you can visit the creator’s website at

Our first group of children visited Edensor on Friday 22nd March 2019 and had a wonderful time.  They said the table was brilliant and they loved it. Some of the games included moving leaves, catching fish, exploding fireworks, rolling a ball across the table and popping bubbles to make sayings. When it was time to leave, the children said the session had gone so quickly but they are excited about going back next time.

We have some lovely photos to put on the website but we are having a few technical difficulties with these at present.  As soon as they have been resolved, the photos will be put on display.
