Year 6 Christmas Extravaganza!
Tuesday 18th December 2018
As part of our learning on ‘A Christmas Carol’ and ‘Mini Entrepreneurs’, Year 6 worked incredibly hard to create their own Christmas event for children with a view of learning business skills, financial management skills and teamwork.
At the start of the project, the children intended to give half to a chosen charity and half to design a Year 6 reading area. Having learnt more about social justice through the Dickens classic, ‘A Christmas Carol’, the work of local community groups and the plight of those less fortunate than ourselves, we are very proud to announce that the children chose to donate 100% of the profits to the Foodbank.
Each group formed their own business and designed products, games or stalls to raise much needed money for their chosen charity. As part of this, they planned their own businesses and produced their own market stalls and games. They completed their own business plans, market research, promotional materials and every aspect of the day was created and managed by the Year 6 children.
Throughout the day, children from Years 3-5 came to the Christmas Extravaganza and had fun playing games, enjoying festive snacks, taking part in exciting competitions and listening to Christmas music. Just some of fabulous entrepreneurial ideas included: Elfie selfie, a sale of delightful handmade soaps, bake sales, a coin for Rudolf, tombola, pin the nose on the snowman, sweet or sour lucky dip, try to guess the name of the penguin and Christmas Eve hot chocolate reindeer cones! Whilst all this was going on, the team accountants were tasked with keeping balance sheets and counting profits.
We are very proud of all of the children in the year group. They all embraced this project and gave it 100% effort and there was some outstanding team work from all involved. Thanks to their efforts, we were able to invite Pat from The Salvation Army, to come and collect the money raised.
The grand total raised was £326.00 profit!
On behalf of all of the Year 6 team at Alton Park Juniors, we would like to thank all parents who supported their child in their business venture and sent along baking, tombola items and prizes for their children’s stalls. We would also like to thank all year groups who took in some money to support their enterprise project.
Congratulations Year 6 – we are all very proud of you!
We all look forward to seeing some of you on The Apprentice soon!
